At Wangu Farms, our team is our family and our most valuable asset. Over the years, we have expanded our workforce and have continually reinvested in their training and education. Water and soil management, proper handling of plants and produce, and personal health and hygiene are some of the areas we focus on most intently. However, we also help our workers and their families participate in more traditional educational programs, such as literacy training, sending children to school who would not otherwise be able to attend, assisting adult workers to enter and complete degree programs, and providing on-the-job training to convert semi-skilled farmers into skilled agronomists. At Wangu, we believe that a healthier and better-educated labor force takes more pride in their work, leads to lower risk during the growing seasons, and higher yields at harvest time.
Our motto is “Grow, Process, Empower, and Deliver". The word “Empower" is a direct reference to the work we are doing with our community of workers, our family. In particular, we are focused on empowering women and youth to take more responsibility, expand their capabilities and their value to the economy, and generally make them healthier, happier and a little wiser every day.
